I was charged with theft under 1000 dollars in 1994. 15 years ago. i paid restitution and had some probation time of 3 months. i should have applied for a pardon 10 years ago but forgot about this whole thing. Last month i crossed the usa border. They let me across but the customs officer had questiones the charge and asked if it was my only one since. Its the first time in 15 years ive ever been questioned on it. I think its due to me having a passport now and they can see this on there. What i am concerened about is i have been offered a job that requires me to train in the USA for 5 to 6 months. ive heard of the petty offence exception but does the customs officer see that it was petty or does he just see a conviction. ive applied for the pardon but its too late they have flagged me at the border and will see that everytime pardon or not. Will i have difficulties entering now. The pardon service told me i dont need a waiver for this but i dont want to be turned back especially if i have to cross with other employees.
